Mixed Media - Digital Images, Transfer Prints
4x5
Covid Daydreams is a series of digital images and transfer prints made to illustrate how I as an artist have been handling the emotional, mental and physical stress related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Through casual observation of the sky and clouds, I found a coping mechanism that proved to be most helpful over the last nine months. Each image in this series represents a celestial experience I’ve had that soothed my anxieties.
Each digital print was transferred to another piece of paper creating a unique and unreproducible copy of the original. Due to the hands-on nature of this process and inherent uniqueness of the resulting images, I was able to learn to embrace the unpredictable. The unpredictability factor helps to illustrate how I’ve been handling my stress and anxiety as I have navigated my way through this pandemic. I have learned that anything in our lives can change at a moment’s notice and there is very little that we can control no matter how much emotional and mental energy we expend. This theory also applies to the transfer print process. Sure, there are steps we can take to mitigate the problems that arise in our lives, but at the end of the day we must accept that which we cannot change.
